Summer Term

In Summer term we give the students the chance to take part in a revue or cabaret style show. The online poll allowed students to choose from the following ideas:-

Jazz Cafe (audience around tables type show), glitz and glamour, 40s and 50s music
Some Enchanted Evening (ball dresses and dinner jackets, 20's & 30s style)
Remember the 70s
A Midsummer's Night's Dream (shakespeare, ballads, magic etc)
Comedy Club (comedy songs and sketches, slapstick, etc)
Mix & Match (unrelated Cabaret items)
Composer themed show (i.e. Simply Sondheim (sweeny todd, funny thing happened etc), An Evening with Rodgers and Hammerstein (Sound of Music, South Pacific, Carousel, King & I, Showboat), Kander & Ebb Kollection (Chicago, Cabaret etc)
Hysterical History (History themed show)
Location based show (France, America, Canada, London)

It was the Jazz Café that won the vote though. Click on the pictures below to see what we got up to!

Spring Term

Spring Term is our "anything goes term". We ask the students what they would like to do, and work from there.

This term we are performing

"A Taste of the Musicals"

Each company will work on scenes, songs and dances from famous musicals such as Mary Poppins, The Wiz, Little Shop of Horrors, Fame, The Secret Garden, Seussical, etc.

They will present their best work in a 3 act show at the end of term to their parents and friends. As usual, they will perform in a proper theatre with all of the fun that that entails!

Autumn Term

Autumn Term is show term, and this Autumn, our show is going to be the Gangster Musical famous for its use of splurge and custard pies - Bugsy Malone!

We run the term in a way that reflects a proper theatrical process.

We start out by learning some of the songs, a dance and some audition pieces, and then hold an informal no-pressure audition in week 3. It's then down to the hard work of learning all of the big numbers and set pieces up to half term, spending time individually with each teacher as well as some group time for large set pieces.

After half term, we work on all of the scenes and anything we haven't yet set, as well as constantly going over the production numbers. This goes on until week 9 or 10 when we start to run the production as a show, and tidy up as we go along. Week 11 is our first dress rehearsal and the show is in week 12, after a tech/dress rehearsal.

Of course, on top of this there's a costume fitting or two, make-up and splurge practice!
